Reopening of the College on Kachin State Day

January 10, 2022

Today morning, on 10 January 2022, our St. Luke’s College was reopened on Kachin State Day. The inauguration began with the Eucharistic Celebration at 6.30am. The celebrants were Fr. Leo Gopal (Director), Fr. Girish Santiago, SJ (Associate Director) and Fr. Kurt, SSC. Due to Covid-19 crisis the second year students were away from the college for a long time. Finally, on this day, the returned 47 second year students, Sisters and a few parishioners participated in the Eucharist. At the end of the Eucharist, with great respect the whole congregation assembled before the inculturated Marian statue, known for her protecting motherhood, popularly known in Kachin Jinghhpaw language as Nu Maria Nam Shayi.  While speaking on this occasion, our senior catechist teacher of the college Sara Kaba John NLam Gam Li said, “Though this particular devotion was started in 2015, still we need to promote this inculturated way of faith celebration. May Mary our Mother continue to protect our State and Myanmar Nation.” Then, all with one voice prayed – “Be with us Mary along the way; guide every step we take.” Finally the celebration ended with a sumptuous breakfast for all.
